What we do
We campaign to raise awareness of issues that affect the Norfolk
countryside, such as housing, transport, light pollution and renewable
energy. We form volunteer campaign groups and take positive action
to get our message across. We promote solutions for the future
of our local countryside.
We respond to planning applications which may threaten the tranquillity
of rural communities or the beauty of rural landscapes. We may
fight proposals for a large supermarket on the outskirts of a
small market town. We may appeal against unnecessary and intrusive
signs on roads. We may appeal against damaging changes to one
of Norfolk's listed buildings. Or we may reject proposals for
a windfarm on the grounds of countryside character and landscape
issues. We often work with local people and provide our experience
of the planning system to support local action.
We seek to influence decision makers; from those on parish and
town councils, to landscape architects and planning departments
at the district and county councils. We work with the EDP, BBC
Radio Norfolk and other local media to get our message across
to the general public.
We were responsible for setting up the Norfolk Historic Buildings
Trust to ensure the restoration and preservation of some of Norfolk's
finest old churches and listed buildings. We form part of the
committee of the Village of the Year awards, rewarding Norfolk's
best kept villages and thriving community groups. And we run our
own annual awards scheme; the CPRE Norfolk Awards, to reward examples
of excellent conservation projects, sustainable architecture and
schools environmental initiatives.
