Campaign to Protect Rural England

CPRE Norfolk has a long history of using the planning system to influence development.  We study planning lists in each of the local district authorities and make formal responses where proposed developments are deemed to threaten the countryside.  We may also write in support of a particular planning application, for example, where a development is of good design or location.  We have excellent working relationships with planning officers, who are often keen to hear our views.

A proposed wind farm is treated as a planning application like any other.  We will study the plans and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and visit the site before making a formal response to the planning officer at the local authority.  We will be interested in how the proposed development may affect the surrounding landscape, neighbouring communities, wildlife, nearby sites of ecological or scientific interest and views from distances.  Of course, CPRE Norfolk will be one of many bodies who may choose to respond to a planning application for a wind farm, such as The Wildlife Trust, MOD, Norwich Airport, the Environment Agency, RSPB and the local parish council.

If you are concerned about a wind farm proposal in your area, contact your local authority to find out the details and the planning officer responsible for the case.  Then contact your parish council to find out what they are doing about the proposal.  If you would like advice from CPRE Norfolk then please contact us.
