Renewable Energy

CPRE Norfolk supports renewable energy as part of the solution to climate change and global warming.  We support offshore wind projects for Norfolk and the development of research into alternative energy sources such as wave and tidal power.  We also support onshore wind energy, but only when it is appropriately and sensitively sited.  We believe that the wider economic and environmental benefits of wind energy should not necessarily be given preference over the beauty, tranquility and diversity of the local landscape.

Norfolk contains many fine examples of buildings pioneering the use of renewable energy technologies and higher standards of energy conservation.  We believe that this is the way forward and seek to encourage housing developers to improve the energy efficiency of new housing and to inspire individuals to improve their own homes.  We believe that climate change is everyone’s responsibility.

ARE YOU CONCERNED ABOUT THE IMPACTS OF WIND FARMS ON THE NORFOLK LANDSCAPE?

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN GREEN BUILDINGS IN NORFOLK?

DO YOU WANT TO MAKE YOUR HOME MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT?
We’ve got involved in local planning consultations for wind farms, sharing our knowledge with local people and making formal responses to district planning departments.
We’ve produced a guidance note to help parish councils and local societies in campaigning for higher standards of energy efficiency in local areas.  Ten methods of saving energy in new houses are highlighted and guidance is given as to how to approach developers and work with the local district council
Norfolk contains many fine buildings pioneering the use of renewable energy and energy-conscious building techniques.  Examples include a school, a farm hostel, an office development, a church, a social housing scheme and many ‘ordinary’ homes.  A publication ‘Green Buildings in Norfolk’ is available from the CPRE Norfolk office.
We all must take responsibility for finding solutions to climate change.  As well as designing new ways to generate clean energy, we must change the rate at which we are consuming energy, in all aspects of our lives.  Our campaigning group have produced a simple advice sheet on how to save energy in the home.
