CPRE NORFOLK AWARDS WINNERS - 2004

 

FULL AWARDS

EARTH SHELTERED DWELLINGS AT HONINGHAM

This innovative design seeks to tackle some elements of global warming. In both construction and use consumption of energy is reduced, and as a result total power bills are working out at around £4 a week.

THE JUBILEE BUILDING, EASTON COLLEGE

The new building has created a focal point at the heart of the campus, and exhibits a considered response to the challenge of designing a modern building in a rural context.

THE ORCHARDS, AYLSHAM

This Grade II listed building suffered severe damage with loss of roof structure and period features. Restoration and conversion to flats were carried out, without loss of original room sizes and proportion.

TEACH AT WAXHAM BARN

Completion of repairs to this 16th Century Barn and its 4 single storey wings, as a result of a partnership between Norfolk County Council and the Norfolk Historic Buildings Trust.
THE BISHOP'S HOUSE, FORNCETT ST. PETER. COMPLETE RESTORATION OF 15th CENTURY HOUSE

Complete restoration of this 15th century house.
RE-DEVELOPMENT OF TOWN MALTINGS, DISS

Buildings date from 1788, Grade II Listed, and were maltings until 10 years ago. Minimum alterations to outward facing elevations, courtyard face suitably modified.
TANGLE PICKERS, BRANCASTER

A brick and flint holiday home with first floor timber boarding and elevated external deck.

  BURLINGHAM WOODLAND WALKS. DEVELOPED AND MANAGED FOR PUBLIC ACCESS

The woods have been opened for public access, and managed for wildlife and mixed objectives.
RESTORATION AND REPLANTING OF BROADLAND POLLARDED ROADSIDE WILLOWS

The important landscape features were neglected and in danger of being lost until brought back into management.

SIDESTRAND HALL SPECIAL SCHOOL

Creation and management of school grounds enabling pupils to learn through the environment.

THE HAWK AND OWL TRUST RESERVE, SCULTHORPE MOOR.

Creation and management of a reserve for hawks, owls and their environment.
"CLEARWATER 2000" RESTORATION OF BARTON BROAD AND CREATION OF A NEW BOARDWALK
A partnership project to the value of £3 million, including dredging Barton Broad to restore water quality and plant community, and improving access for all by elevated walkway, and Britain's first solar-powered passenger boat.

HIGHLY COMMENDED
RESTORATION OF ASHBOURNE HOUSE, CROMER

A grant aided restoration of exterior, owner restored interior to similar high standard. A positive development in a run-down area as part of the Cromer Regeneration Scheme.

THE RESTORATION OF AYLSHAM LYCH-GATE STEPS AND THEIR ENVIRONMENT

Restoration of historic walls and boundaries of Aylsham Churchyard and renewal of historic steps to Cromer Road.
"GILLIES" BURNHAM OVERY STAITHE: A NEW HOUSE IN BRICK AND FLINT

The design concept was to form a lane running from north to south of the site, passing through the building and into the landscape.

ALTERATION AND CONSTRUCTION OF COTTAGES AT BURNHAM THORPE AND
WARHAM


Construction and alteration of cottages for letting to local families by the Holkham Estate.

RENOVATION OF WELLINGTON HOUSE, CROMER

The work was carried out as part of the Cromer Townscape Heritage Initiative and paid for by a local (fishing) family, the Lees.
