Sir Nicholas Bacon appointed President of CPRE Norfolk
CPRE Norfolk, the countryside charity dedicated to protecting and enhancing the county’s rural landscapes, is delighted to announce the appointment of Sir Nicholas Bacon Bt. OBE DL as its new President.

A long-time Norfolk resident and one of the county’s most respected public figures, Sir Nicholas brings decades of experience in conservation, agriculture, and community leadership.
His appointment comes at what CPRE Norfolk describes as a “critical moment” for the county, as development pressures and environmental challenges continue to grow.
Speaking about his new role, Sir Nicholas said:
“I am honoured to serve as President of CPRE Norfolk at such a crucial time for our countryside. I look forward to working with communities across the county to protect our landscapes, champion sustainable farming, and ensure that future generations can experience the beauty and biodiversity of Norfolk.”
About Sir Nicholas
Sir Nicholas is known nationally for his environmental and charitable leadership. He currently chairs The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative – the nationwide tree-planting project launched to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee – as well as The Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth, the Plant Health Alliance, and the Trustees of The Royal Collection. He is also an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Foresters.
Locally, Sir Nicholas has been deeply involved in Norfolk life, with leading roles at Norwich Cathedral, the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association, Easton College, the University of East Anglia, and Norfolk PACT, a taskforce tackling rural crime.
His previous public roles include serving as President of the Royal Horticultural Society (2013–2020), High Sheriff of Norfolk (2005), and Lord Warden of the Stannaries for the Duchy of Cornwall (2006 – 2022).
