CPRE Norfolk joined a number of local organisations involved in maintaining and celebrating Norfolk’s environment on 10th June 2023 for Norfolk’s Healthy Environment Day as part of The Great Big Green Week 2023.

The event was organised by the Norwich Friends of the Earth group with a multitude of stalls outside the Forum & talks following the theme of ‘Land, Air, Water & the Urban Environment’ taking place inside St Peter Mancroft Church which were followed by a panel discussion.

CPRE Norfolk's Secretary, Ian Francis, manning the stall at the Big Green Week event.

The CPRE Norfolk stand, manned by the charity’s secretary Ian Francis, invited its visitors to learn more about the challenges Norfolk’s countryside faces and the variety of work undertaken by the charity. Guests were also asked to guess the number of food miles of a bowl of fruit which was on the stand.

What would be your answer?

The truth shocked many visitors when they learned how far each item had travelled, especially those items that could be grown in the UK but were imported as they were out of season.

We won’t give away the answer so you can tell us should you see us at a future event, but if you are curious about how far your food may have travelled we recommend using the Food Miles website. Those children taking part in the challenge were rewarded with an ‘iSpy in the Countryside book’ to encourage them to get out and explore our beautiful countryside in Norfolk.
