A creative day at Martha’s Meadow
About 70 visitors, sunshine, sketchbooks, wildlife and wildflowers… A Creative Day at Martha’s Meadow turned out to be exactly what we hoped for – a gentle, inspiring event full of connection, curiosity, and countryside appreciation.

Members, friends and supporters joined us from across West Norfolk and beyond, including as far as Cambridge, Ely, and north of King’s Lynn, for a rare opportunity to explore this privately rewilded space and take part in a range of nature-based activities.
This celebratory event on 25th May 2025 raised funds in support of CPRE Norfolk, including a generous donation from Lethe’s Crafts, who brought beautiful handwoven heart-making to the day.
What happened on the day
Visitors were invited to enjoy:
- Exclusive access to Martha’s Meadow, a privately managed, biodiverse site
- Photography & art competitions, with stunning entries from both adults and children
- Wildlife hunt trails for younger visitors
- Guided nature walks led by volunteers
- Pond dipping sessions (a big hit!) with thanks to Ivan
- Wicker heart-making, courtesy of Lethe’s Crafts
- Homemade cakes and refreshments lovingly donated and served by volunteers
- A chance to plant the seed of your own mini-meadow, with wildflower plug trays donated by Harrowden Turf

Feedback from visitors
The response was overwhelmingly positive, with many telling us how peaceful and inspiring they found the meadow. Several attendees asked if more events like this could happen in the future, a wonderful sign that there’s real appetite for gentle, creative, countryside-focused experiences like this.

We also welcomed a few CPRE members on the day and handed out membership leaflets, with others signing up via our exit questionnaire to hear more about our work.

Thank you
This event wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible generosity and support of so many people:
- Adrian and Claire, for hosting the event and offering their time, energy, and beautiful space
- Their family and friends, for helping the day run so smoothly
- Our competition judges, volunteers, bakers, and stewards
- Everyone who came, created, donated, and shared the day with us

Your support helps CPRE Norfolk to continue its work across the county, protecting landscapes, promoting sustainable development, and helping more people connect with the countryside on their doorstep.
We’ll be sharing some of the winning artwork and photography soon, and we’d love to see how those mini-meadows from Harrowden Turf grow in the months ahead.
Until next time – thank you!
