The Norfolk branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE Norfolk) exists to promote the beauty, tranquillity and diversity of rural Norfolk by encouraging the sustainable use of land and other natural resources in town and country.

Stop The Drop!

Celebrated author and CPRE President Bill Bryson is urging Norfolk residents to 'Stop The Drop'. Bill is supporting our anti-litter and flytipping campaign across Norfolk. Litter picks have been organised locally, equipment is available for groups to hire and litter wardens are being established in rural communities.

Our History

Formed in 1933, CPRE Norfolk is one of the longest serving environmental organisations in the county. For more than 75 years, we have campaigned locally for positive solutions that will support the long-term future of Norfolk - one of England's most rural areas.

Awards

The CPRE Norfolk Awards scheme was launched in 1979 to recognise significant achievements in buildings and landscape. The Awards are sponsored by the Targetfollow Group and winners are announced at an annual Ceremony in November at the Norwich Assembly House.

Green Buildings

Hundreds of people take part in CPRE Norfolk's Green Buildings Open Days event in September. Free guided tours of eco-homes, energy efficient developments and environment centres help visitors understand more about building design and renewable energy.

Norfolk Historic Buildings Trust

CPRE Norfolk founded the Norfolk Historic Buildings Trust in 1977 with the Norfolk County Council. Since then, the Trust has saved over 20 historic buildings and monuments in Norfolk. Read more at the Trust's website here, or for details on the dispute at Denver Mill, visit News and Events above.

Light Pollution

In Norfolk, truly dark skies are now only visible in 12% of the county. CPRE Norfolk has a dedicated light pollution group that campaigns to minimise light pollution from new and existing developments. We are also closely monitoring the PFI street lighting replacement scheme in Norfolk.

Planning - Housing

Regional government has determined that over 80,000 new houses will be built in Norfolk in the next 20 years. CPRE Norfolk has consistently objected to these housing numbers and wants to ensure that Norfolk's future is planned sensitively and new development meets identified local needs.

Membership

CPRE Norfolk is a membership network, a registered charity and a voluntary organisation. We are supported and funded solely by individuals, families, parish councils and local societies that care about their local countryside. If you want to play a part in saving your countryside, then join us, or make a donation.

Volunteering

Our volunteers come from all walks of life, have a variety of skills and interests and are spread throughout the county. CPRE volunteers get involved with everything, such as planning issues, litter-picks, fundraising, committee work and graphic design. New volunteering opportunities are posted on this website regularly.
