CPRE Norfolk is an independent, county-based charity working to protect, promote and enhance the countryside for everyone’s benefit.

We are part of the national CPRE network – The Countryside Charity – which has campaigned for more than 90 years for sustainable rural communities and thriving landscapes.

In Norfolk, our focus is on ensuring that environmental and planning decisions support both climate action and countryside protection.

We believe in practical, evidence-based solutions that balance renewable energy, food security, biodiversity and community wellbeing.

CPRE Norfolk’s work includes:
  • Campaigning for “Renewables Done Well” – supporting rooftop and brownfield solar, not large-scale industrial schemes on farmland.
  • Providing independent research and evidence to planning authorities, government and media.
  • Working with local groups and parish councils to strengthen community voices in the planning process.
  • Running public awareness campaigns and exhibitions like this one to help people understand what is at stake.
  • Leading the Norfolk Alliance of local campaign groups opposing mega solar proposals.

Our aim is not to block renewable energy, but to make sure it happens in ways that protect what matters most – our farmland, our wildlife, our communities, and our landscapes.

This page is based on the exhibition board “Who We Are” from CPRE Norfolk’s Getting Solar OFF the Land Exhibition (2025).
