What CPRE Norfolk asks for
A strategic, sustainable approach to renewables
To protect the countryside while achieving Net Zero, CPRE Norfolk is calling for a clearer, fairer national policy framework.
Our key asks
-
A pause on new ground-mounted solar schemes above 50 MW until a national Land Use Framework is in place.
-
A “Brownfield and Rooftop First” policy so renewables prioritise built environments over farmland.
-
Full cumulative impact assessments for energy infrastructure in planning decisions.
-
Protection for Best and Most Versatile (BMV) land, heritage landscapes and biodiversity corridors.
-
Support for community-owned renewable projects that retain local benefits.
-
Compulsory solar on new builds – commercial and residential.
-
Upgraded building standards and energy efficiency programmes to reduce demand before expanding supply.
These measures would help deliver the UK’s Net Zero target while preserving the land that feeds us, sustains wildlife and defines Norfolk’s character.
